Abstract

9033. Fynn, V. A. April 25. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Field magnets; sparking, preventing.- For the purpose of producing commutating-fields, one or m o r e commutating- coils without magnetic cores are disposed within one or more of the interpolar spaces of continuous-current, single-phase, or polyphase machines, which are provided with neutralizing-windings for neutralizing the ampere-turns of the armature. The axes of the commutating-coils are preferably displaced by about 180/m degrees with respect to the axes of the main field poles, n representing the number of poles of the machine. The Figure shows a two-pole machine having main field poles P1, P2, coreless commutating-coils C1, C2, and a neutralizing-winding N. The commutating-coils may embrace less then the axial length of the armature, and may be attached to the yoke or to the main poles by a metal frame, which is preferably non-magnetic. In a continuous -current machine, the commutating-coils are usually connected in series with the armature, while with alternating-current machines, any known device may be used to produce a commutating-field of the required phase.
