Inductor-alternators; armatures and field magnets, short-circuited shields and dampers on poles of.- A high-frequency alternator for radio communication comprises a circular stator core 5 supporting a pair of laminated rings 7 each carrying a zigzag armature winding 13 positioned in slots 16 of the overhung type. Stationary field-magnet coils 10 are mounted as shown. The periphery of the rotating inductor 9 is slotted to form a number of magnetic poles 15, and the slots are filled with blocks 11 of copper or other non-magnetic metal, which are connected at the ends by conducting- rings 17 to form short-circuited windings for minimizing the effect of armature reaction. The widths of the stator teeth 16<1> and of the inductor poles 15 are such that, as the inductor 9 rotates, the number of inductor poles opposite any stator tooth alternates between n+1/2 and n-1/2, where n is any odd numeral greater than one. As shown in Fig. 2, either one or two inductor poles are opposite each stator tooth as the inductor rotates, the frequency of the induced current being three times the frequency which would result from the employment of inductor poles and stator teeth with the same pitch.
