Carrier bands; fixed trays; louvers and like trays.-Apparatus for withering or drying tea leaf &c, carried through a chamber on carrier bands, reticulated, perforated, or louver trays, &c., is provided with impelling and exhaust fans independently operated so that hot air may be forced or drawn or both forced and drawn through the chamber. In the carrier - band apparatus shown, the fans D, E are driven by fast and loose pulleys from a main shaft M, and an outlet door G is provided for use when the exhaust fan E is not working. Air passes from a heater B to an adjacent compartment a, and thence to the drying-chamber A, either directly through doors a<2>, or through the fan D, or through both in regulable proportions.
