Abstract

Metal pipes and tubes. -U-bends for superheater and like tubes are made by placing a distance-piece 1 between the ends of the tubes so that its ends project on either side, then heating and welding so that it is flush with the end and sides of the tubes as shown in Figs. 5 and 4, and then welding on the ends of the tubes a U-bend or cap. The cap may have a thickened end to allow for wear due to flue gases and flow of superheated steam. Specification 22,035/11, [Class 99 (i), Pipes and tubes, Joints &c. for], is referred to.
