Abstract

219,816. Whitehead, R. July 31, 1923. Flues, external.-An expansion joint for Lancashire and other boilers is composed of a length of H-section iron between the boiler and the brickwork, containing asbestos packing between the flanges which bears against the boiler and the brickwork. The lengths of H-section a are mounted between the boiler b and brickwork c at the front end of the boiler, each length extending from a point near the usual saddle part to a point at or above the side flue. Asbestos packing d bears against the boiler, and similar packing e against the brickwork. A metal hoop f encircles the boiler and holds the sections a in place. The joint may be applied to sectional boilers.
