19,546. Mitchell, H. E., and Nobbs, W. W. Sept. 8. Ventilation systems. -Air is drawn from a series of rooms through one or more equalizing- chambers and a compounded duct. As shown in Fig. 7, a series of room openings 1 open into a passage or equalizing-chamber 2, whence the air is drawn through a flue 3 of progressively increasing cross-sectional area, as shown in Fig. 7<a>, 7<b>, and 7<c> which represent sections at A-A, B-B, and C-C, respectively. The openings 15 into the flue 3 correspond to two or more room openings 1, and are faced by screens 16. In a modification, a series of horizontal ducts open into a vertical well with a downcast shaft flue similarly arranged. In this case, the openings into the shaft-flue are grated, and no screens are shown. A fan at the base of the downcast shaft flue delivers into an upcast shaft. Known arrangements of simple and compounded ducts drawing from a number of room openings are described and shown in the Specification by way of illustration.
