Abstract

16,290. Ziegler, L. July 9, 1913, [Convention date]. Regulating.-Relates to valve-gear for mixedpressure turbines driven by exhaust steam supplemented as required by live steam. The inletvalves 5 6 for the live-steam and exhaust-steam stages 1, 2 are controlled by a speed-governor 3 and a pressure governor 4, the latter being so influenced by the amount of the exhaust steam and by the load on the exhaust-steam stage 2 that, in the event of an increase in the amount of available exhaust steam, the admission of live steam can be diminished only so long as the exhaust-steam stage is not under full load. This result is obtained by the counter-movements of two pistons 7, 8 in the pressure-governor, each exposed on its left-hand side to the pressure of the exhaust-steam supply through a pipe 10. On the right-hand side, the piston 7 is subject to a constant pressure, for instance the atmosphere, while the piston 8 is exposed to a pressure dependent on the load of the exhaust-steam stage 2, for instance the pressure derived through a pipe 9 leading from the rear of the valve 6. Suitably-adjusted springs tend to force both pistons to the left.
