Abstract

Fountains.-A self-contained table fountain comprises a pedestal a above which are two basins c, d the lower of which carries the filter h, centrifugal pump e, and electric motor b. To ensure silent working, the motor b is insulated from the pedestal a by means of a resilient packing g clamped between the flanges f<1>, i<1> by the union nut j. The spindle b<1> of the motor b is extended upwards and is attached to the sleeve k which carries the hollow shaft l of the pump impeller l<1>. In order to prevent access of liquid to the motor b, a tube m is provided between the hollow shaft l and the shaft b<1>. By this means, the motor b may be disconnected without interfering with the pump e ; holes l<2> are provided in the shaft l by which the water drains away when the apparatus is emptied and inverted. The upper basin is made a loose fit in order that water may overflow from the lower basin before reaching the top of the hollow shaft. The jet pipe o is connected to the inlet pipes o<2>, which are provided with sleeve joints o<3> to provide for easy connexion and disconnexion.
