JOHN S. CRAIG, OF HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT.
WAeHeovi/L.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 695,038, dated March 11, 1902. Application filed February 2, 1901. Serial No, 45,705, (No model.)
To ctZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN S. CRAIG, a citizen of the United States of America, residing and having post-office address at Hartford, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Washbowls, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, where the drawing is a View, mainly in central vertical section, of a washbowl and appurtenances eni- -bodying said improvement.
The object of the improvement is the production of a washbowl having a water-supply such as is common and also having a flushing arrangement which operates synchronously with the ordinary supply.
In the accompanying drawing the letter a denotes a washbowl.
The letter 1) denotes the Water-supply pipe having the cock 0 interposed therein.
The letter (Z denotes a delivery-pipe connected to and leading from the supply-pipe b. Vhen the cook a is open, water flows through and out of the pipe 6, furnishing water which may be used for drinking or other purposes.
The letter e denotes a perforated flush-pipe which interiorly encircles the bowl. It is connected to the Water-supply pipe I) by the pipe f. It results that when the cock 0 is opened Water not only flows through the delivery-pipe d, but also through the pipe f into the perforated flush-pipe, escaping therefrom through its many perforations and cleaning or flushing the washbowl continuously. It is to be understood that the perforations in the flush-pipe are at short distances apart around the entire length of the pipe and of course so located as to direct the water escaping through the same upon the inner surface of the washbowl.
The letter 9 denotes the ordinary outletpipe of the bowl.
The letter h denotes a removable standpipe which may be inserted in the outlet-pipe at pleasure, so that the water must rise to the top of this standing overflow-pipe before it can escape.
This washbowl, with these appurtenances, is specially useful in the oliice of a physician, and the more especially if he be one who treats catarrhal diseases and ailments of the throat, and nasal passages. At all times the device aifords a means of getting clean water through the delivery-pipe d. The flushing arrangement, which keeps a film of flowing water upon the interior surface of the bowl, will carry off the expectorations which patients are often compelled to make when under treatment for the kinds of diseases indicated. The use of the removable standing overflow-pipe avoids the use of a chain, which is a thing very likely to contamination by the kind of expectorations mentioned.
I claim as my improvement- In combination, the water'supply pipe, the cock in the Water-supply pipe, the deliverypipe leading from the water-supply pipe, the perforated flush-pipe adapted to interiorly encircle a bowl and the pipe leading from the water-supply pipe to the flush-pipe; all sub stantially as described and for the purposes set forth.
JOHN S. CRAIG. Vitnesses:
W. E. SIMoNDs, LUITGARD MORBA.
