Abstract

Stroke, varying.-A pump for producing a gradually increasing pressure and maintaining the pressure at a predetermined amount is provided with plungers which are positively actuated on their suction strokes and actuated through the medium of compression springs on their delivery strokes. The driving- shaft 17 carries eccentrics 16 operating rods 15, which reciprocate the frame 14, 31, 26. The pump cylinders are formed in pairs 6, 6 with oppositely-extending plungers 13, 32, which extend through the cross-heads 14, 26 and are provided with lock-nuts 22, 29. Collars 19, 30 are pressed against shoulders 21, 28 on the plungers by springs 20, 27, so that, on the suction strokes, the plungers are positively moved, and on the delivery strokes, are moved through the medium of the springs. The stroke of the plungers decreases gradually while the pressure increases, and at the maximum pressure, the plungers have no stroke, the full movement of the cross-heads being taken by the springs.
