Abstract

102,689. Cheremisinoff, G. May 31, 1916. Portable hand pumps; valves, arrangement of.- In a pump for inflating pneumatic tyres &c. and of the kind comprising two cylinders arranged side by side and pistons coupled to move together in the same direction, suction and delivery valves are arranged at the bottom and top respectively of one cylinder and at the top and bottom respectively of the other cylinder, so that the compression strokes are alternate, and the charges of air are transferred under pressure through ports in the pistons on their rods to the respective compression spaces. As shown, cylinders 1, 2 have suction valves 6, 7 and outlet valves 4, 8 respectively. The chamber of the valve 4 communicates by a passage 3 interposed between the two cylinders with a delivery chamber 5, with which the chamber of the valve 8 also communicates, as shown. The piston 9 of the cylinder 1 has a valve 13 and ports 14 in its rod 11, and the piston of the cylinder 2 has an oppositely-arranged valve and similar ports in its rod. The piston-rods 11, 12 are coupled by a cross-piece to move together in the same direction.
