Abstract

Manure-distributors.-An appliance for setting plants and simultaneously discharging water, with or without a fertilizer, comprises a reservoir, a plant-feeding tube, means for making a hole in the ground and discharging the plant &c., and means for covering the roots with soil. The hole is made by curved plates or jaws 3, 4 at the lower end of the reservoir, which consists of two connected casings 1, 2. The pivoted plate 4 is normally held against the fixed plate 3 by' a looped spring and is opened by means of a looped rod 12 and a double bell-crank lever 15, 16 which is provided with stops. The plant tube 6 projects into the reservoir and discharges between the plates 3, 4. The discharge of water is regulated by means of a valve 8 adjustably connected by a rod 24 and a nut 32 to a spring arm 26 which is provided with a push-button 31. The valve 8 may be of rubber, and the valve seat may be formed by flanging the bottom of the reservoir upwardly. At the top of the reservoir is a handle 9 provided with an extension or grip part 9<1>. The plates or jaws 3, 4 are provided with lips which cover the roots with soil when the appliance is partially rotated.
