This invention relates to a. valve structure such as is expressly adapted, for disposition atop the feedwater delivery pipe in a conventional flush tank, said valve structure, as usual, serving to accommodate the pivoted end of the float arm whereby to open and close the valve element according to the water level in said tank.
Needless tosay, I am not unmindful thatmany and varied types of float-controlled valves have been provided for use at the upper discharge end of the water delivery pipe. However, and notwithstanding this, I have evolved and produced a simple and expedient structural assemblage, which, it is believed, more aptly fulfills the requirements of satisfactory flush tank appliances.
Of outstanding importance is the provision of a detachable and renewable valve seat, said seat being removably attached to the screw-threaded upper end of the water delivery pipe and being properly housed in the sectional valve casing for proper coaction of the reciprocatory valve element therewith.
More specifically, I provide a removable and renewable valve seat unit, that is, a device which includes not only the valve seat per se, but an attaching collar as well as an outstanding flange, the flange being apertured and serving as a satisfactory mount for the sectional casing which surrounds the seat unit and accommodates both the valve element and swingably pivoted end of the float arm.
In addition, it is an object of the invention to utilize the flanged apertured valve seat unit whose marginal edge serves to adapt it for clamping between the companion part of the valve casing.
Other features and advantages will become more readily apparent from the following description and the accompanying illustrative drawings.

Figure l is afragmentar-y. view of a portion of a conventional flush tank showing the feed water delivery pipe provided with float-controlled valve means constructed in, accordance with the principles of the instant invention.
Figure 2 is a view of the upper portion of said delivery pipe, this broken away and shown in section, the improved valve means, the invention under advisement being shown primarily in section with the valve open.
Figure 3 is a side elevational view showing the pipe, emphasizing the removable valve seat, and the sectional casing for said valve seat, the sections being separated to bring out the construction and relationship ofparts.

Referringnow to the drawings by distinguishing reference numerals, it will be seen that the flush tank, which is conventional, is denoted by the reference character A. The feed water delivery pipe is indicated at B, the same being anchored in the bottom of the flushtank, as at C, by any suitable means. The ball float is denoted at D, and has the usual detachable rod or arm E, this provided with an adjustable blocklike mount F.
Reference being had now to the invention itself, I direct attention to Figure 3-. Here it will be seen that the upper end of the delivery pipe B is externally screw-threaded, as at 8, to accommodate an internally screw-threaded collar 9 forming an integral part of the valve seat unit It. The unit l0 includes the valve seat per se H which projects upwardly and centrally above the discharge end of the pipe B. Then, in addition, there is an integral disc-like flange l2 provided with apertures l3 suitably shaped and arranged; These are for the back flow of the water which is trapped inthe valve casing.
The valve casingcomprises a main upper conical section M which hoods over the valve seat unit In, this part l4 being provided with a depending skirt-like flange l5 which is internally screw-threaded and shouldered. 'The shouldered portion rests upon the marginal portion of the flange 2. The crown portion of the section It is provided with a central guide it for the stem ll of the valve it}. The valve stem projects up and between upstanding parallel lugs or ears l9 between which the block F is detachably and hingedly mounted, as at 20, The lower rim portion I5 is of hexagonal form to adapt it for the accommodation of a wrench or thelike.
Referring again to Figure 3, it will be seen that the lower complemental section of the valve housing or casing is in the form of a ring 2! whose outer perimeter is also of flat-faced form to provide tool grips. The inner perimeter 22 is of a diameter so that it is spaced from the pipe B to provide a water return for water flowing down from the valve casing. The water films down over the pipe B and flows into the flush tank via this route. The ring; is also provided with an upstanding annular flange 23, this being screw-threaded and being tapped into the thread,- ed flange or skirt l5, as shown to advantage in Figure 2. The flange 23 engages the under side of the marginal edge of the disc [2,, thus binding and clamping both parts M and 20 against the flange. As before stated, the flange through the apertures l3 in the disc l2.
thus serves as a supporting mount for the sectional valve casing.
, The water entering the pipe B and flowing upwardly through the seat H is trapped in the conical chamber and takes a return flow down It floods down over the pipe B by wayof the annular open- Y ing 22. As the water builds up in the tank, the float arm E acts on the valve E8, the valve comes down on the seat ll and closes oif the supply.
Any overflow is taken care of by way of the bypass passage 24 which is formed in the casing section I l and which discharges through the laterallelbow or fitting '25. In practice, this fitting serves to accommodate an overflow pipe 26, as shown in Figure 1.
Noveltyis predicated upon the unit H! attached to the top of the pipe B (see Fig. 3). Novelty is also based on the sectional casing which encloses the valve unit E0, the casing being 1 madeup of the primary parts l4 and 20. Additional novelty has to do with the clamping of the sections M and 20 on the marginal edge of the disc I2. 7
, -A careful consideration of the foregoing de-' Z scription in, conjunction with the invention as illustrated in the drawings will enable the reader touobtain a clear understanding and impression of the alleged features of merit and novelty suflicient to clarify the construction of the invention as hereinafter claimed.
Minor changes in shape, size, materials and rearrangement of parts may be resorted to in actual practice so long as no departure is made fromthe invention as claimed.

being adapted to screw into a screw-threaded skirt carried by said valve casing,;and"a separate V and independent valve seat unit comprising a disk having. its outer marginal edge removably clamped between said shoulder and adjacent edger 7 of the screw-threaded flange on said' ring, said a separate and independent valveseat unit comprising a disc having its outer marginal edge clamped between said shoulder and adjacent edgev of the screw-threaded flange on said ring, said disc being apertured and provided with a valve seat nipple, and being further provided with a 7 depending internally screw-threaded collar, said collar being adapted to fit and thread on the upper end of said pipe said collar being the sole meansfor attaching and supporting the entire valve casing and being of an external diameter less than the central aperture in'said ring.
