Gill boxes and frames; drawing-frames.-In preparing-machines for flax, hemp, jute, &c., in which the material is fed from a sliver can and delivered into a sliver can, the back rollers D, Fig. 1, the delivery rollers C, and the fallers or other principal parts are arranged at a lower level than usual, and sliver pulleys E and an auxiliary delivery roller A are provided at the requisite heights for the sliver cans B A separate roller A with a straight or a spiral groove may be provided for each sliver. The rollers A are adjustably mounted on supports a<2> and are driven at a greater surface speed than the rollers C to tension the sliver. A pressing-roller G acting against a roller f is provided.
