13,167. Rayner, H. J. May 28. Electric and like pens and pencils. - A mechanical stippling pen or pencil comprises an arm D, Fig. 1, pivoted to the holder C at d and oscillated, to effect an up and down movement of the pen &c. e<1>, by a rotary fluid - pressure motor A. The motor A is mounted in a casing B having a reduced portion b<2> which fits detachably into the end of the holder C, and oscillates the arm D through a crank a<1> which engages a slot in the end f of the arm. The portion F of the arm D is resilient, to prevent stoppage of the motor if the pen &c. e<1> is brought into contact with the work. For use with pencils, the end of the arm D is provided with a split tubular socket at an angle to the axis of the holder, so that the pencil is applied approximately at right - angles to the work. Means may be provided for controlling the speed of the motor, consisting of a jet h, Fig. 7, normally held out of register with the supply passage b<5> by a spring h<1>, and adapted to be brought more or less into register therewith by operating a finger-piece attached to a rod J engaging the spring h'.
