Abstract

12,242. Cripps, F. S., and Milbourne, R. J. May 18. Sluice valves; leakage, preventing; indicating-apparatus.-In a double-faced slide or sluice valve of the kind having the space between the valve faces filled with liquid when the valve is closed, the two faces i are arranged to be forced against their seatings by a central wedge l which is secured between collars m on the non- reciprocating screwed spindle n, as shown in Fig. 1, or is mounted on a removable bottom cover t, Fig. 7, co-axial with the spindle n. A water inlet pipe d and a vent pipe g, each fitted with a cock, are provided. A sliding pointer x on a screwed part y of the spindle operates in conjunction with graduations on a casing w to indicate the position of the valve. The valve faces are normally pressed apart by two springs at v<1>.
