Mountings; embrasure joints.-Relates to shields and embrasures for casemate mountings. and consists in constructing or arranging the upper and lower edges b<1>, b<2> of the revolving shield b, and the corresponding edges a<1>, a<2> of the fixed armour a to form abutting surfaces to limit the backward movement of the shield when struck. In the construction shown in Fig. 2, the surfaces are inclined; but they may be stepped or otherwise shaped, or, as shown in Fig. 8, arranged to overlap. If the shield b is struck by an enemy's projectile, it will move inwards, against the resilient supports d, for a limited distance only, and the shock will then be transmitted to the fixed armour a.
