Turntables.-The main girders which sustain the load of a turntable are adapted to flex in a vertical plane to compensate for variations in the level of the supports. The main girder may flex at any section by the reduction of its rigidity at that section. The girder may be in two or more parts ; when the joint occurs centrally, the two parts may be connected to a boss on the pivot pin or to members bearing on an horizontal pin attached to the pivot ; when the joint or joints occur out of the centre, the parts may be connected by hinge or knuckle joints, or by horizontal plates.
