[Cognate Application, 17,656/14.] Explosives.-Consists in adding a mixture of potassium or sodium chloride, borax, and potassium nitrate to nitroglycerine-nitrocellulose explosives to render them safe against fire-damp, carbonaceous matter (except collodion cotton) being as far as possible excluded. One example contains 42¢ parts of nitro-glycerine, 2¢ parts of collodion cotton, 20 parts of potassium nitrate, 20 parts of borax, and 15 parts of sodium chloride.
