Driving - gear. - The connecting - rod 16 is pivoted to one end of a curved lever 17 and a spring 14 to the other end, the fulcrum of the lever 17 on the cross head plate 13 changing with the pressure in the cylinder and consequently the lengths of the exhaust and compression strokes.
