Scotch blocks.-A stop-block for railway vehicles, of the kind adapted to be placed on the rail and to be thrown off automatically by a spring device after it has acted, comprises a block f fitted with arms c, h pivoted together and separated by a spring g. The vehicle wheel a depresses the arm c into engagement with a catch e, which holds the spring g compressed, so that, when the wheel rolls back, the spring forces the arm h downwards and jerks the block off the rail. The operator releases the catch e by gripping the part m together with the handle l of the block. The arm h is fitted with a roller k.
