Abstract

9332. Lawinger, H. April 21. Scotch-blocks and scotching-appliances. - A stop-block for railway vehicles is constructed so as to be automatically thrown off the rail when the vehicle is moved away from the block. In the form shown, the stop-block is provided with a plunger a normally pressed outwards by a spring d, which bears at its other end upon a bolt i normally retracted by a weaker spring k, as shown in Fig. 3. The bolt i is mounted outside of a line passing longitudinally through the centre of gravity of the block, and is adapted to pass through the base-plate m into contact with the rail. When a wheel of the vehicle comes on to the block, it depresses the plunger a until a catch c thereon engages a catch o on the handle e, thus holding the spring d compressed, so that, when the vehicle is removed, the spring d forces the bolt i against the rail, as shown in Fig. 2, and throws off the block. When the block is lifted by the handle e, the catch a is released and the parts return to the normal position.
