Abstract

1481. Switzer, E. W. Jan. 20. Seat attachments.-A pillion or passenger seat A' for motor-cycles &c. is supported at its front end from the back of the saddle and at its rear end from a plate D fixed upon the ordinary carrier. An extension at the front of the seat engages bolts A upon the saddle frame and is held thereon, between leather washers G, by wing-nuts. On its underside, the plate D has a block to fit between the side-bars of the carrier frame and a looselymounted plate adapted to be drawn upwards by nuts and screws to engage a cross-bar of the frame. At the back, the plate is clamped to the carrier by a cross-piece M and two bolts and nuts, one nut being also used for mounting the rear hanger E of the dress-guard E'. The front hanger B' rests upon the chain stay B of the machine, and the rear hanger is recessed to accommodate the stand C when in the raised position. The foot-board is preferably hinged to the guard E' and spring- supported as by a rubber buffer, heel blocks or grips P being provided towards the front, and the rear extended to carry parcels. A handle 0 may be fixed to the plate D and the seat is preferably supported from the plate by springs N. According to the Provisional Specification, the back of the seat rests on three spiral springs arranged across the seat and bolted to a board, corresponding to the plate D, upon the carrier frame.
