663. Matthews, F. E., and Strange, E. H. Jan. 9. Liniments, embrocations, ointments, and salves.-Pharmaceutical preparations for external application contain salicylic esters of isopropyl or butyl alcohols or of poly - hydric alcohols, together with solvents, oils, fats, waxes, or anointing preparations, or with solid or semi-solid materials to form a paste. Antiseptics such as cresol may also be added. The esters mentioned are those of iso-propyl and normal butyl alcohol and of the glycols and glycerols. The additional substances mentioned are petroleum jelly, paraffin wax, wool fat or lanoline, carron oil (olive or linseed oil with lime water), linseed oil, iso-amyl salicylate, zinc oxide, magnesium carbonate, and precipitated chalk.
