Abstract

An injectable composition contains trypsin, which may be present from 25 to 75 mg. per cc. in a liquid oleaginous medium. The medium comprises one or more mineral or vegetable oils, such as, cotton seed, sesame, palm, olive, peanut, soy, sweet almond, castor, coconut or babassu, e.g. glycerol or glycol esters of higher fatty acids having 12 to 18 carbon atoms, and may also contain from 0,5 to 5 per cent by weight of a metal salt of a higher fatty acid having from 12 to 18 carbon atoms e.g. stearate, palmitate, laurate, myristate or oleate, of aluminium, zinc, calcium and magnesium. The composition may be formed by melting the salt, adding the oil, and cooling to room temperature prior to the addition of the trypsin. An antihistamine, e.g. "Benadryl," "Pyribenzamine," "Chlortrimeton," "Decapryn," "Chlorothen" (Registered Trade Marks) may also be present in an amount of about 0,007 per cent by weight.
