502,335. Lubricating -compositions. STANDARD OIL DEVELOPMENT CO. Sept. 23, 1938, No. 27736. Convention date, Dec. 23, 1937. [Class 91] A lubricating composition for Diesel engines comprises a non-waxy lubricating fraction containing from 0À1 to 3 per cent of a metallic soap of acids derived from the oxidation of " sweater oil." The soap may be an Al, Ca, Di, Sn or Mg soap, and is oil-soluble or rendered oil-soluble by an organic solubilizer. " Sweater oil " is the oil obtained by subjecting crude scale wax to a second sweating operation. In an example, 1À7 per cent of Al soap of oxidized " sweater oil" is added to a non- waxy naphthenic oil obtained from a Coastal crude and having a Saybolt viscosity of 55 secs. at 210‹F. The mixture is heated to about 175 to 200‹ F., till complete solution is effected. After standing in storage for three and a half months, the oil shows no haze, gelling or other evidence of separation of the soap. Other agents, such as oiliness increasers, corrosion inhibitors, antioxidants, extreme pressure agents, thickeners or dyes may be added.
