Cylinders, construction of and cooling.-The cylinder liner 2 is cast in one with the lower part of the water jacket, and is free to expand at the cylinder-cover end. The cover 9 projects into the cylinder, and has spring rings 11 or a metallic packing of the cup-leather form. The upper end of the water jacket is closed by an annular corrugated metal disk 8. The liner at the cover end may be reinforced by strengthening-ribs or by rings 6 shrunk on. The liner may be entirely separate from the jacket and be bolted thereto at its lower end.
