Cylinders, construction of and cooling.-The castiron or steel cylinder barrel h screws into an aluminium jacket a at its base and fits tightly at its upper end x. The upper joint is kept tight by squeezing metallic packing n between the surfaces m, i, and the screwed joint by soldering with tin or zinc. The barrel may have an integral head, or the clearance space may be of such a diameter that the valves are arrested by the end of the barrel if their spindles break.
