Abstract
27,718. Moss, W. E. Dec. 2. Boat raising and lowering gear.-Boats are prevented from swinging against the ship's side during lowering operations, by supporting each fall from two points, so that the suspension ropes take up a V position, thus eliminating the swinging or pendulum effect. In one form, the bight of one or more parts of the fall is passed through a lead block secured to the davit post. In another modification, each end of the boat is supported by a pair of falls 10, one of which passes over a pulley 13 at the davit head to the winch 11, and the other passes directly to the winch over the fair-lead 14. In order that the outer fall shall travel faster than the other during the terminal raising movement of the boat, the barrel upon which this fall is wound is made with a fusee at one end.
