Boat raising and securing gear. - Ship's boats are provided with covers which are automatically released from the boat and collapsed upon the davits during l o w e r i n g operations. The invention is shown applied to davits of the athwartship - swinging- frame type. A ridgeboard D suspended by lashings D' from the upper longitudinal member of the davit frame supports a cover E having downwardly-extending sides E'. A line F attached to a small windlass on the fixed stanchion C is branched at F<1> and is carried over pulleys F<4>, F‹ and through rings F<7>, E<3> to the edges of the cover. As the frame swings outboard, a limited supply of rope is drawn off the windlass G, but the continued movement of the frame draws up the cords attached to the edges of the cover and leaves the boat suspended freely from the falls. Lashings J which keep the boat fast against the frame when inboard are also automatically drawn up by the outboard movement of the frame by a rope K fixed to the central stanchion C and passed through rings K<3> on the lashing-bands.
