Brake mechanism.-Relates to back - pedalling b r a k e mechanism for cycles &c. in which a clutch ring on the bottombracket operates on backpedalling to pull a rod 13, which causes a stirrup 19 pivoted on one brake member 21 to ride up a cam-slot 17<1> on the other brake member 18, and thereby cause the members 18, 21 to grip the brake drum 35. According to the present invention the members 18, 21 are pivoted at 23 on an axle which can move in a slot 24 formed in a supporting-member 30, and is pressed rearwards by a spring 26 to prevent contact between the members 18, 21 and the brake drum 35 during forward running.
