Abstract

Contacts.-A shunt for the auxiliary sparking- contacts of circuit-breakers consists of a strip of good conducting resilient metal, for example phosphor bronze or well-tempered copper, one end of which is firmly secured to the auxiliary contact, the other or free end making sliding contact with one of the members of the switch. In the construction shown, the auxiliary contacts c are mounted on spring plungers sliding in slots f in the extremity of the movable contact member b, which carries the main contacts d. The shunt is secured at one end k to the auxiliary contact, the other end l being doubled upon itself and adapted to make sliding contact with the end face of the movable contact-member b. Instead of doubling the shunt into U-form, the free end may be turned up to rub on the movable member of the switch.
