Abstract
24,297. Johnson, J. E. Aug. 13, [Convention date]. Gast-iron processes; oxide and cast-iron processes.-Cast iron is treated so as to add oxygen thereto, and then silicon is added so as to obtain a cast iron containing oxygen. According to one method, cast iron from an ordinary blast furnace is cooled to 2250-2500‹ F., and air is blown in, so that while the silicon is removed, the carbon is not greatly affected, and a quantity of oxygen is retained in the metal. The metal is then mixed with metal containing silicon. Iron oxide may be added in the converter.
