Abstract
21,050. Major, C. G., Stevens, P. H., and Smith, Major, & Stevens. Sept. 17. Lift cages and doors, locking and unlocking.- Relates to the inventions described in Specifications 2766/05 and 29,778/12, and consists of an electric lock and switch for a lift gate in which the counterlocking of the latch precedes the closing of the switch and is positive, while the switching is permissive, that is, the switch, after the locking operation, is free of the locking- means, but closes only on operation of a third factor. In the form shown in Fig. 2, in the switch box is pivoted a two-armed lever 9 of which the one arm 10 carries the switch, while the arm 12 projects through the casing and carries a roller engaging a striker 13 on the cage. The lever is so arranged that a spring tends to close the switch. Also pivoted in the box is a tumbler 7 acted upon by a spring 8. A nose 4 operated by the handle 2 is fitted to the gate. The striker 13 is moved away from the lever 12 on a solenoid 17 becoming energized, and this allows the switch to close. As shown, the cage is at a floor with the door and switch open. In this position, the switch is locked by the tumbler. On closing the gate, the latch 4 is pressed over the projection 6 on the casing to lock the door positively, and the tumbler is thus moved to permit closing of the switch which closes on energization of the solenoid to remove the striker 13. In the form shown in Fig. 5, suitable for a hinged door, the door is fitted with two sliding bolts which engage projections on the tumbler 7. When two hinged doors are used, the connecting-rod described in Specification 29,778/12 is connected to the tumbler. In the form shown in Fig. 7, a threearmed lever is arranged in the switch box, the third arm 41 carrying a projection 36 which engages behind a projection 33 on the gate latch 4. A spring plunger 38 is fitted as shown. The closing of the gate presses in the plunger, and the latch engages behind the catch on the box. On energization of the solenoid, the switch is closed by the spring of the plunger and the catch 36 rises up behind the projection 33. A form of wiring showing how the solenoid is energized in the case of a push-button lift is described.
