Abstract
29,778. Major, C. G., and Smith, Major, & Stevens. Dec. 27. Lift cages and doors, locking and unlocking. -Comprises a combined gate or door locking- device and switch for electric lifts. Fig. 1 shows the application to a single-hinged door. The switch box 10 is secured to the lift well and encloses a three-armed tumbler 11 provided with a heavy switch-member 14 and projections. 12, 13, 29. The latch-box 1 is mounted on the door and carries two sliding bolts 5, 6 operated by a two-armed tumbler 4. The bolt 6 is also fitted with a spring which tends to force it into the switch box. When the parts are in the position shown, the door is locked at two points by the bolt 6 engaging the switch casing and by the lug 12 engaging the latch casing, and electric contact is made at 15. When the cage arrives at the floor, a cam 19 carried by the cage engages the interlocking catch 17 and frees the tumbler 11, which falls, breaking the circuit. The lug 13 has now pushed back the bolt 6, and both lugs 12, 13 are flush with the edge of the casing, whereupon the door can be opened. Fig. 4 shows the device applied to double-hinged doors. The latch-box is mounted on the last-closing door, and another box containing a three-armed tumbler 25 is mounted on the lintel of the door. The tumbler 25 is connected by a link 22 to the tumbler 11 of the switch box. The bolt 6 is connected to the handle 2 and receives one arm of a lever 4. In closing the doors, the half 24 is closed first, the part 36 pushing back a spring catch 35 whish prevents the closing of the other half 23. This half is now closed and the bolt 6 pushed up, the end 26 of the tumbler 25 being forced into the latch-box 1. The turning of the tumbler 25 moves the rod 22 to the left and causes the switch 14 to make contact. Fig. 7 shows the application to a sliding gate. The switch box carries a three-armed tumbler and an interlocking lever as before. The tumbler has two arms 12, 13 pointing horizontally towards the opening in the casing. The door carries a hand-lever 2 formed with a catch 6 on one end. This lever is controlled by a spring 8. The catch enters freely between the arms 12, 13. In closing the gate, the ramp 30 guides the catch into the casing, and the catch entering between the arms pushes the switch home and springs over the edge of the ramp to lock the gate. When the cage has moved away, the lever 17 locks the device. Specification 2766/05 is referred to.
