[Cognate Application, 8563/14.] Cylinder machines - Consists in rolling the dough sufficiently to render the aeration uniform without felling by over compression and feeding it into measuring-cells fitted with plungers. Fig. 1 shows a form of apparatus in which the dough passes between adjustable rolls 5 directly into measuring-cells 1 formed in an oscillating member 2 operated by a cam 13 and rack 11. The rollers 5 are operated intermittently in synchronization with the withdrawal of the plungers 7. Cams 8 operate the plungers for ejecting the dough. A single roller, co-operating with the wall of the hopper 4, may be employed. Fig. 2 shows a modified apparatus in which the dough, after passing through the rollers 5, traverses a free space and falls into a hopper 18 from which it is forced by a plunger 17 into the measuring-cells 1. In this apparatus, the rollers may rotate intermittently or continuously. The speed of the rollers is adjustable and the rollers may be fluted.
