9472. Nosworthy, W. H., and Prescott, S. J. April 22. Aerial machines without aerostats; planes, construction of; propelling.-The propeller of an aeroplane is located between the front and rear edges of the main supporting-plane in the vertical plane containing the centre of gravity of the machine, and the plane is gapped or open in front of the propeller. The propeller is shown in Fig. 3 arranged on a machine having the planes 7 adjustable in the same or opposite direction about transverse pivots 11, 12. The propeller 1 rotates in openings 5, 6 in the planes which are gapped at 14 in front of the propeller. The gap 14 may be enlarged so as to be co-extensive with the opening in which the propellers rotate, as shown in Fig. 9. The propellers may be arranged abreast or one behind the other.
