Abstract

111,128. Kelly, T. D. May 7, 1917. Planes, construction of. - The main lifting- planes of aeronautical machines are provided on the under surface with rigid pockets D, Fig. 4, arranged across the line of flight, in addition to, or instead of, pockets on the top surface of the planes. The pockets are the same as those described in Specification 101,442. In modifications, the pockets are replaced by angled grooves D, Fig. 1, similarly arranged. When grooves are provided on both surfaces of the plane, the plane may be formed of a sheet of thin sheet metal or other material stamped with V-shaped corrugations. The ends of the grooves may be closed by plain edges E or may be left open.
