Abstract
4928. Vulcan - Werke Hamburg und Stettin Akt. - Ges. Jan. 16, [Convention date]. Motor power plant.- Comprises a locomotive propelled by internalcombustion engines with transverse shafts driving the wheels through a F÷ttinger hydraulic transmission apparatus, by which the speed and direction of travel is normally determined. The engines have horizontal and vertical cylinders 3, and their crank-shafts are coupled, as shown in Fig. 1, to the shaft of the hydraulic apparatus 2; this shaft drives the wheels through crank and coupling-rod gearing, as shown in Fig. 3. It is stated that the masses of the driving-parts of each of the vertical and horizontal engine sets are balanced. The shafts 4 may be directly coupled together, and one may drive the shaft of the transformer through cranks and coupling-rods. The internal-combustion engines may be reversible, leaving only the speed regulation to the hydraulic apparatus. Pumps for cooling and air-compressing purposes may be driven by one of the shafts 4, or may be separately driven. Specifications 25,136/09, and 14,029/10, [Class 69 (ii) Hydraulic presses &c.], are referred to.
