Winches; driving-gear.-A sheave for hauling on a chain is journaled in a frame d provided with a retaining-pawl f pivoted at d<3> and kept in contact with the chain by a spring d<5>. The operating-lever E, which is journaled on the shaft c of the sheave, is formed in two parts pivoted at e<2>. The lower part e embraces the sheave and carries spring pawls e<5> engaging ratchet surfaces formed on the faces of the sheave. The outer part has a nose E<1> which engages the chain when hauling, but is retracted during the return stroke of the lever.
