Abstract

3746. White & Co., J. S., and Smith, J. Feb. 13. Floats for aerial machines. - Floats for hydro - aeroplanes are approximately boatshaped with considerable overhang forward in elevation a n d of stream - line shape in plan, and are constructed with a turtle-back deck 5. The bottom 6 is curved in cross-section and provided with steps 7 situated directly beneath the struts 22 by which the aeroplane is supported. A longitudinal bulkhead 9 the whole depth of the float is fitted, and in addition transverse shallow floors 10. Diagonal struts 19 are placed transversely between the longitudinal bulkhead and the outer ends of the floors. The transverse bulkheads 8 are fitted in line with the steps 7, and upright struts are secured to the central bulkheads. A keelson and middle-line deck stringer constitute features of the construction.
