Abstract

1606. Wells, W. J., and Lewis, D. Jan. 20. Aerial machines with aerostats; aerostats; cars; balancing; propelling.-A rigid balloon is traversed by a central tube 1 with flared ends 2, 3. The propellers 16, 19 are placed in the tube 1 and are driven by belts 22 which pass through casings 22<1>, Fig. 3, in the balloon to motors 23 in changers 12, 13. The car 8 is free to move along arcuate guides 11 fixed to the balloon, and operates ailerons 24 through cords 27 when the balloon rolls. A rudder 34 and elevator 33 are provided at the rear of the balloon.
