Abstract
7814. D³sterloh, G. Jan. 10, [Convention date]. Aerial machines w i t h aerostats; aerostats.-A dirigible air - ship which can be readily taken to pieces is built up of a number of renewable annular balloon sections forming a rigid, semi-rigid, or non- rigid aerostat with a central longitudinal channel in which the propeller is arranged, larger vessels having a number of such aerostats arranged beside or above one another. Fig. 2 shows an air-ship having a series of annular balloon sections 1-12 stayed at intervals by reinforced rings F, F', F<2>, F<3> connected to a longitudinal bar E extending beyond and stayed to the ends of the aerostat; or each balloon section may be stayed to the bar E. Each ring F consists of a hub and two rings of wood or metal braced like a cycle wheel. The central channel and the outer surface of the aerostat are covered with a smooth skin D. Larger units consisting of three balloon sections ready sheathed may be used to facilitate erection. To replace a damaged section, the sections are removed from either end as far as the damaged section, and a new section is threaded on the rod E. Cars and cabins; propelling.-The engine-room consists of a central tube B containing the propeller J, Fig. 6, and a casing K, beneath which a car L is arranged. The motor is placed at the bottom of the casing K, and passengers may be accommodated at each side. The engine-room may be left open at the top to enable observations to be taken.
