Abstract
830. Hutton, H. T. Jan. 10. [Addition to 4463/12.] Exhaust-silencers.-In silencers as described in the parent Specification, the inlet chamber to the silencer is constructed so as to be readily connectable to the exhaust pipe without tilting the silencer as a whole. The inlet chamber B is in the form of a sphere with holes b, and held between two cups A. Lugs L are fixed on the cups for attachment of the silencer to a car &c. Spring washers J are placed between the end chamber or chambers E and the through bolt k. Adjacent disks e, e<1> may be secured together by tongues formed on one disk clipped on to the other, or separate clipping-pieces G may be used. The disks e<1> may be complete and have holes h punched in them. The Provisional Specification also states that the disks may be extended outside the silencing-chambers in order to increase the cooling effect on the gases.
