26,684. Gravestock, E. C. Nov. 20. Variable speed belt gearing.-Relates to expanding pulleys of the type in which the tension of the belt and the diameter of the pulley are adjusted simultaneously. T h e pulley e is mounted on a carrier b<1>, b<2> pivoted on the engine shaft and driven therefrom by chain or other gearing. A cam-sleeve f by which the movable flange e<2> is operated is slidable on the boss e<1> but held against rotation by pins g mounted in the support b<1> and engaging holes in the sleeve. Cam-grooves f<2> in the sleeve are engaged by pins l<1> in an operating-sleeve i connected to the hand-lever j and held against longitudinal movement by pins, studs, or a ring l<2> secured to the plate b<1>. A cam k secured to the sleeve i bears against a fixed stop so that one movement of the lever j tensions the belt and adjusts the pulley diameter.
