Abstract

25,665. Zeitz, O. R. H. Nov. 8. Drilling - m a c h i n e s ; cutters and cutter-bars.- A grinding - machine which can also be used for boring comprises a rotating spindle 2 vertically movable by means of a spindle 6. At the lower end of the spindle 2 is a head 11 carrying a rotatably - adjustable tool holder 12, in which may be carried a boring-tool 19. The tool - holder 12 is rotated to adjust the radius of the cut by a pinion 15 or an adjustment shaft 7 engaging a toothed ring 14 on the tool-holder. The adjustment shaft 7 has an upper pinion 25 engaging one of two planetpinions 27, 26 on an arm 28 carried rotatably by the spindle 2 ; the other pinion 26 engages a pinion 24 on the spindle 2 and a fixed internal gear 22. A rotatable internal gear 23 engages the planetpinion 27 but is normally stationary so that the spindle 2 and adjustment shaft normally rotate together but may be rotated differentially for the adjustment of the sweep of the tool by turning the internal gear 23 by means of a shaft 30.
