Flash signals; lighthouse and like signals.- In flash-signalling apparatus of the kind in which gas is intermittently discharged from a valve-chamber closed by a diaphragm actuating the valve, and in which the interval between the flashes is varied by a controlling - member periodically operating a valve to increase the supply of gas to the casing, the controlling- member is moved by means of a separate diaphragm, piston, or the like actuated by the pressure variations in the device. The valveplate 7 is rocked on knife-edges 9 to close at 10 the gas-supply conduit 14 and open at 11 the burner conduit whenever the pressure in the casing 1 becomes sufficient to overcome the spring 17. An auxiliary supply pipe is normally closed by a valve 19, which is opened each time the valve-plate 7 swings downward except when one of a series of holes in the ratchet-wheel 22 comes over the valve stem 21. The ratchetwheel 22 is rotated by a pawl actuated by a diaphragm 31 which is acted on by a spring 32 and the varying pressure in the casing 1. The other side of the diaphragm 31 may be acted on by the pressure of gas in a casing 33 in the burner conduit 15, as shown in dotted lines, the spring 32 then being unnecessary, or it may be controlled by the pressure in the supply-pipe or any or all of these.
