Abstract

21,331. Weir, G. & J., aud Peterm÷ller, J. Sept. 19. Centrifugal ejector pumps.-To obtain maximum efficiency with varying water velocity in the directing-nozzles, means are provided for positively or automatically moving the directing-nozzles. The nozzles c, which direct the water into the buckets d of a rotor a, are connected to a member m, while the vessel to be exhausted is connected to the chamber p. The air and water pass out through nozzles e into a tank f connected to the member m. The member m is rotatable to vary the position of the nozzles, or a number of sets of nozzles may be provided, one set being adapted to register with a port in a cylinder rotatable within the nozzle member m. The nozzles may be rotated by hand or automatically by connexion with a diaphragm or a piston w in a cylinder u connected bv a duct v with the vessel to be exhausted. The position of the piston, pressed forward by a spring 2, will depend upon the pressure in the vessel, and as the water velocity varies with the difference between this and the pressure in the tank f, the nozzle member m will be adjusted accordingly. Water may be admitted from an external source instead of being repeatedly used.
