Abstract
21,059. Petermann, O. Oct. 14, 1911, [Convention date]. Carriage - shift mechanism and shift-key actions, particularly for folding machines in which the carriage-bed 18 is pivoted at 17 to a shift-frame consisting of side-bars 15 secured to slides 14 connected by a cross-bar 30. To ensure that an equal and uniform movement is given to both sides of the shift - frame, stops and guides for the cross-bar 30 are provided at both sides; further the shift-frame is stayed by an additional cross-bar 31 and is rendered selfadjusting by enlarging the guides 13, 13<a> at 13<x> and providing one of them with a transversely elongated aperture. The cross-bar 30 is engaged closely by the slotted ends 29 of arms 27, 28 secured to a rock-shaft 23, the arm 28 being prolonged and provided with a ' Figure ' key 34. The Capital' shift-lever 35 is loose on the rock-shaft 23 and is provided with an elongated slot 39<a> to receive the cross-bar 30. The lever 35 may also be provided with a stud 38 engaging a slot 39 in the lever 28. The connexions between the levers 28, 35 enable the lever 28 to be depressed without movement of the lever 35. The stops 57, 58 for limiting the lift of the shift-frame are provided at both ends of the cross-bar 30 and co-operate with a transversely arranged stop-bar 41 which can be moved lengthways in brackets 40 by the cam-end 55 of the lever 35. When the lever 28 is depressed the shift-frame is given the full lift, the long stops 57 passing through apertures 48, 49 in the brackets and the stop-bar and the short stops 58 arresting the shift-frame by engaging the brackets. When the lever 35 is depressed, the shift-frame is given the half lift, the stopbar being moved by the cam to cover the apertures 49 and the shift-frame being arrested by the engagement of the longer stops with the stop-bar. The stop-bar is returned by a spring 51. The stops are screwed into the cross-bar, and can be locked in the adjusted position by nuts 60. The brackets 40 are formed with slots 45 for guiding the cross-bar. The shift-frame is counterbalanced by a spring 61, Fig. 8, arranged between a lug 61<a> on the arm 27 and a screw 62 adjustable by a thumb-nut 62<b>. The lever 35 is held in the normal position by a spring 39<c> arranged between a lug 39<d> on the lever and a pin 35<c> which serves as a stop for the lever. Key locks.-The locking-lever 63, Fig. 1, is provided with lugs 66, 71, the lugs 66 being adapted to engage recesses 68, 69 in the levers 28, 35 and lock them depressed, and the lug 71 being adapted to engage beneath a lug 70 on the lever 28 and prevent operation of either of the levers. The movement of the locking-lever is limited by wings 65.
