Abstract

19,283. Linotype & Machinery, Ltd., and Spence, F. Aug. 22. Bed-reciprocating apparatus.-Relates to bedreciprocating apparatus for printing presses of the type described in Specifications 9454/00 and 685/06 and comprising a constantly rotating pinion 9 brought alternately into engagement with racks 7, 8 on the bed 5 by means of the shifter 14 and driven by a finger 12 engaging a slot 13 therein and carried by a crank 11 secured to the driving-shaft 1, said pinion hub 16 being of smaller diameter externally than the path of the finger and mounted upon an extension 10 of one of the driving-shaft bearings 2, and a second crank 18 with rollers 21, 22 adapted to engage shoes 20 at the ends of the press frame for retarding and reversing the motion of the bed. A sleeve 24 secured to the driving-shaft is interposed between the bearing 10 and pinion hub 16 so as to support the latter and to just clear the bearing, whereby the total friction between the hub and bearing will be no more than that of the hub's sliding motion along the bearing when shifting the pinion from one rack to the other.
